Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although this facility's overall grade is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable grade in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this area, which is not bad. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. In computing our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third best category turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B-. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more critical for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we scored was long-term care. This facility was given a B- for this category. Long-term care grades assess a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the skilled therapy or healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
