Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to resident safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ in that category, which is one of our better scores. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a respectable score in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 29.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we scored is long-term care. For that category, we gave this facility a C. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 97.44898 percent of its patients. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.53 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
