Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's better category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 95.60878 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 3.29 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this area, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes due to some of the medical complexity of patients.

Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. We gave this facility a score of D. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home offered only 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this area. This is likely a bad sign in light of the fact that so many pressure ulcers could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing score significantly.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at is short-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's least impressive area. It received an abysmal F in this area, which is certainly very concerning. Our short-term care ratings are likely more meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 42.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
