Facility Inspections
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a relatively impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our better scores in that category with a B+. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an D. Nursing scores are mostly based on a facility's nurse staffing. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
Another unfortunate development is the F this facility received in the area of long-term care. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category may not provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated just 76.041664 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. With a score of this caliber for this area, we weren't shocked to find that this place was below average in many staffing metrics we assess. The nursing home provided far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 4 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
