Registered Staff Hours
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. In determining our nursing scores, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility earned a somewhat respectable short-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.
Does this page answer your questions about Riverside Nursing Centre?
Among this nursing home's worst category grades was an F for its inspection rating. Generally, this means we found red flags on the nursing home's government inspection reports. For places with bad inspection grades, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This facility had 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was long-term care, where this facility was given a poor score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. For residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
