Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in this area with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more favorable category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a B. It actually performed better than most facilities in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 60.714287 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. When determining our nursing scores, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's worst area was short-term care, which is the last area we looked at. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area. Despite a few solid grades in other areas, this grade is still concerning so we felt obligated to point it out. With our short-term care rating, we attempt to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Given its weak grade in this category, we were not surprised to find this nursing home provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this facility's short-term care score.
