Short-term Care Quality
In addition to earning a strong overall grade, this facility fared well in short-term care. We awarded it an impressive grade of A- for that category. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a score of A- for our long-term care grade. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 72.81554 percent of its residents. This is slightly below what we anticipated but still a respectable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out this nursing home's nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them a grade of B+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at is nursing. This facility was awarded an above average nursing rating this year, with a B. This facility truly did not have any weak links. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
