Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this nursing home's higher category scores was in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B+. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that do well in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.2 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third most favorable area is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst area is nursing, which is the final category we scored. For this area, we awarded this nursing home a D. Nursing scores are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
