Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with an A. This is a notably better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection scores are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
The second most favorable category we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of short-term care, this facility was given just a D in that category. Short-term care scores are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
This facility's weakest area was nursing, which is the last area we assessed. It received a lowly F for this area. Even with multiple solid grades in other areas, this grade is nevertheless concerning so we wanted to make a note of it. The nursing rating assesses a handful of data points, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic really dragged down this nursing home's nursing grade substantially.
