Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it actually fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that have a long list of severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this nursing home still received a relatively favorable inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its long-term care score, which ended up being one of its more respectable category scores. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.88059 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing rating is based on a handful of subcategories, however, the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This place performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored was short-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in that area. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With a score of this caliber in this category, we weren't shocked to discover this place was well below average in many staffing metrics we looked at. In fact, it offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.2 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below the national average.
