Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many deficiencies flagged. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this was still a relatively favorable report.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this facility's better category scores came in the category of long-term care. This ended up being its second best category. In that category, we gave this nursing home a C. In the category of long-term care, we look at the quantity of care provided by a nursing home, rather than more healthcare-oriented services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. The nursing grade assesses a handful of components, but the paramount consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last category, this facility really did not perform well in this area either. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is really as terrible as it gets. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This area is considered to be a reliable measure of the facility's rehabilitation. Considering its grade in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
