Facility Inspections
Although we gave this place a poor overall grade, we actually awarded it a fairly respectable score in the area of inspections, where it received a B-. This was better than its other categories. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. Nursing grades are primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this statistic. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we awarded this facility in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. Our short-term care scores are presumably most meaningful for residents needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded is long-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this facility administered the vaccine to a relatively low 72.807014 percent of its residents, which is slightly concerning. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
