While we did not have many favorable things to say about this facility's overall grade, it did receive a respectable nursing score of B-. Nursing scores are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care offered.

The next highest category we awarded this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

The third area we analyzed is long-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of B- in this area. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.81917 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
