Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to draw your attention to its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this place still had a relatively favorable report.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this nursing home a B in our long-term care category. This is one of our higher scores. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 89.051094 percent of its patients, which is somewhat less than we anticipated. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. Nursing ratings are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was short-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in this category. In determining these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
