Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection grades are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also gave this facility a grade of A- for our long-term care score. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After we finished assessing the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a life or death condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the category of short-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It outpaced most facilities in this area. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we analyzed ended up being this nursing home's weakest category. However, even in its worst category we still gave it a respectable grade of B- for our nursing category. The nursing score includes quite a few components, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This place was subpar in a few of the major metrics we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are typically reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
