Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We didn't have many favorable things to say about this facility's overall score or its category scores. Its best category is nursing. Nevertheless, with just a D in this area, it still performed relatively badly. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with residents as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's next most favorable category was long-term care, but it still earned just a D in that area. This ended up being a well below average score. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Our next category we graded was short-term care, where this nursing home was given an F. In calculating these short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Given its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the figures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Moving on our final category of inspections, this nursing home received an F here. With places that received this bad of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular facility was hit with one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies identified by the government inspectors had the potential to pose actual harm to residents. We are also concerned by the fact that this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
