Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for inspections. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its high-end profile, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a score of A- in the area. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 94.03794 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. In calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a resident more often.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final area, this facility was awarded an acceptable short-term care score. While this isn't as dominant as many of its other grades, this is really not a major area of concern. Our short-term care scores are probably most critical for folks requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
