Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its favorable overall score, we gave this facility a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.65871 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its next best category score in the category of short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a B- in this category, which is an acceptable grade. Our short-term care scores are arguably more meaningful for individuals requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final area we assessed was nursing. We gave this facility a grade of C in that category. Our nursing grade includes many data points, however, the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. While this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning a patient even once per day.
