Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in that area with an A+. Inspection ratings are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we also wanted to point out that this facility was given positive long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our better scores in this category, with a B. This proved to be the nursing home's second highest score. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.319725 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a middle of the road grade in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are meaningful for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we analyzed was nursing, which is this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a D in this area. Of course, this category pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Our nursing score assesses a handful of subcategories, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
