Pneumonia is too frequently a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

We also awarded this nursing home a middle of the road grade in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are meaningful for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
