Long-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this facility an A for our long-term care score. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 98.11321 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.38 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive profile, this facility also performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's third most favorable area is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a C. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This place performed decently in this area, with 46.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's worst area was nursing, which is the last area we looked at. For this area, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. Our nursing grade assesses many data points, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is below the national average. Although this nursing home's nursing hours were below average, it surprised us in some of the qualitative metrics in this category. In particular, we were pleased to find that its patients appear to be suffering fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
