Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in long-term care, where it earned an impressive grade of A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection ratings are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning our third area, this nursing home received a top-shelf short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in that category. With our short-term care score, we try to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Moving on to our last category, this nursing home also performed well in the nursing category. In fact, we gave it a B+ for this category. This topped off a very impressive report card. When calculating our nursing grades, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
