Although this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform quite as poorly in the area of long-term care. In fact, we gave it a C for that category, which isn't bad. This was not enough to salvage its otherwise weak profile. In the area of long-term care, we focus more on the amount of services offered by a facility, rather than more sophisticated services. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 98.16514 percent of its residents for pneumonia. The last statistic we assessed is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. While it had 2.14 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not too far off the national average.

This facility's second best category was inspections. Nevertheless, with a grade of just D in this category, it still performed poorly. Inspection grades factor in many items found on the facility's inspection reports. If you find too many deficiencies on the reports, this is generally the worst sign. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. This particular facility had 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Historical

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. We assessed the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in determining our score in this area. With just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were far below the national average. To pair with its low total nursing hours per patient, this nursing home had bad marks in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. For starters, we looked at the percentage of patients sustaining falls leading to serious injury. This facility was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.

Historical

The final category we looked at was short-term care, in which this facility received a rock bottom score in this category as well. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously somewhat alarming. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 38.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
