Although we didn't grade this nursing home favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

The next best category we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a C. Long-term care grades are commonly used to score a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to a relatively low 83.06878 percent of its patients, which is slightly concerning. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.68 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. In computing our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility averaged just 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Switching gears to the last category, this facility really didn't perform very well in this category either. With a poor grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Not surprisingly based on its grade in this area, this nursing home was well below average in one of the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided substantially fewer registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 35.2 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
