Short-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home an A- for our short-term care rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Short-term care grades are generally used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Nurse Quality
Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of D. Nursing scores are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was long-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's weakest category. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this area, which is obviously concerning. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated only 75.18797 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
