This nursing home received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially want to point out its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave it an A+ in this area. Adding to this facility's list of achievements, it also received a first-rate long-term care score. We gave them a dominant grade of A+ in this category. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. In calculating our nursing grades, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic.

This facility's weakest area is short-term care, which is the final category we looked at. For this area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D. Short-term care ratings are important for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.
