To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

This nursing home also received a strong short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In our short-term care score, we seek to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. There are several datapoints included in this category. Many of these subcategories relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The next area we graded is long-term care. We awarded this facility an acceptable grade in this category, with a grade of C. Although this is not as favorable as some of its other grades, it is still not a major area of concern. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
