Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place is a strong facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility an A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to this facility's list of strengths, it also was given a top-shelf long-term care grade. We gave them a dominant grade of A in this area. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 52.51572 percent of its residents. This is slightly less than we expected. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.36 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third best category was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is essentially a middle of the road grade in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is considered to be a reliable measure of the facility's rehabilitation. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was above average in this metric with 49.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility's worst area was nursing, which is the last category we scored. In this area, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. Nursing scores are mostly associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. While this facility's nursing hours were below average, it actually surprised us in some of the qualitative metrics in this category. In particular, we were pleased to find that its residents are sustaining fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
