In addition to being an elite facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A+. Few nursing homes fared this well in this area. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. You can't go wrong with a deficiency-free inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to direct your attention to the fact that this nursing home excelled in our short-term care category. We awarded them an elite score of A+ in this category. In forming these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a very favorable sign. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in this area with 57 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing rating assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This place provides an incredible 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of care, this facility also fared well in some of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is usually a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided with better nursing care and a policy of regularly moving residents to avoid bed sores.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we rated is long-term care, in which this facility received a grade of B. This actually is this facility's least impressive area. A facility is doing something right when it's lowest score still is better than most nursing homes. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the elite level of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were impressed by the nursing home's record for vaccinations. For example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. This combination proved to be successful as this facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
