Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable short-term care grade. We awarded it a respectable grade of B in this area. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is typically a fair assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. We were not able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Facility Inspections
We actually gave this facility a very solid score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a B- in this category. This is better than many facilities in this category. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality
We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in nursing. In fact, we gave it an D for that category, which is one of our best scores. Nursing ratings are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed was long-term care. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is a poor grade. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
