Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also was given an A+ for its short-term care grade. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Nursing grades are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on to our final category, this nursing home also performed well in the long-term care category. We awarded it an A- in that category. This rounded out truly elite report card. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
