Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B for our inspections rating. This was due to the facility receiving a quality inspection report this year. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid nursing homes that had too many deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our long-term care rating, which isn't too bad of a score. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 80.5668 percent of its patients for pneumonia. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another concern was the F this facility was given in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation To have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Considering its weak score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

The next category we scored is nursing. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a very poor score. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. To pair with its below average totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place had poor marks in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. For starters, we looked at the percentage of patients sustaining falls leading to serious injury. This facility was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
