Registered Staff Hours
Although we did not have many positive things to say about this nursing home's overall score, it did receive a somewhat respectable government inspection report this year. It received a decent score in this category with a B-. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next best area turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B-. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next most favorable category is its long-term care grade, where it was given a B-. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an above average statistic. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Moving on to our next category, this nursing home received an acceptable nursing score of C. In computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this statistic.
