Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a bad overall rating, we awarded it a somewhat respectable grade in the category of inspections, where it received a B-. This was quite a bit better than its other categories. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. The nursing rating features numerous subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we assessed is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 6.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we rated is long-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is a decent grade in this area. In the area of long-term care, we weigh the quantity of care offered by a nursing home, rather than more medically-intensive services. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
