Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well overall, this nursing home also received nearly flawless government inspections. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A+. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded an impressive long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B+. Facilities that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we graded was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B. This actually ended up being this facility's weakest area. A nursing home could be doing a lot worse when their lowest grade still is better than most other nursing homes. Short-term care grades are commonly used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
