In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home also was awarded a positive long-term care score. Indeed, we gave it a B in this category, which is one of our better. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a score of D. When calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place averaged only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Despite a few solid scores in other categories, this grade is nevertheless alarming so we wanted to draw your attention to it. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Given its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.8 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
