Facility Inspections
Although we graded this place incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a relatively impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B+. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that had too many deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of short-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in that category. As it turns out, this wound up being its second best grade. In our short-term care assessment, we attempt to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a score in this range for this category, we weren't shocked to find that this nursing home was below average in multiple staffing areas we assess. The facility offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home wound up receiving a an abysmal grade in our long-term care area. It received a lowly F in this area. For patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.98305 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the final area, this nursing home really didn't fare very well in this area either. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
