Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this facility excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Among this facility's other strengths is its elite nursing grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A. Nursing grades are largely based on a facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Oregon in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving a resident more often.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an impressive grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to resident health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final area we analyzed is long-term care, in which this facility received a grade of C. This was this nursing home's worst category. This is still not a bad grade. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.8764 percent of its residents, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
