Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of providing very favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 98.64865 percent of its patients. This statistic is also significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Our nursing score is largely associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is among the higher figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these figures. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on our next area, this nursing home was given first-rate short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A in this category. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This place is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. It supplied roughly 1.5 times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical nursing home. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that it fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 52.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we gave this nursing home an elite grade of A- for our inspections rating. With this grade, the facility completes its straight A report card. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
