Facility Inspections
While this place's overall score was as bad as it gets, it actually fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our long-term care rating and that actually turned out to be its second most respectable score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this nursing home vaccinated only 68.06722 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.88 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility wound up receiving a an abysmal score in our short-term care category. It was given an F in this area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is typically a fair measure of the facility's rehabilitation. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 43.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last category we graded is nursing, where this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel score in this category also. It received an F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. The nursing grade includes several subcategories, however, the paramount consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
