Facility Inspections
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of short-term care, this facility received just a D in this category. Short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its abysmal score in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home offers significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was long-term care, in which this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel score in this category as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is definitely a major concern. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility vaccinated a relatively low 86.04207 percent of its residents, which is somewhat alarming. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
