Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in this area with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a strong grade in long-term care. This facility received a grade of B in this category, which is one of our higher grades. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its short-term care grade, which is well below average in this category. Short-term care ratings are vital for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. As you might expect, we found that this place provides substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded is nursing, which is this facility's weakest area. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is clearly very disappointing. There are a variety of factors included in this area. Many of the criteria reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
