Facility Inspections
On top of earning a great overall rating, this nursing home fared even better in the area of inspections which is associated with the facility's recent inspection reports. We awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. Unfortunately, it does not look like we have information on deficiency's for this nursing home. We would like to have more information about this facility. Without information regarding deficiencies, it is challenging to evaluate the place in the area of inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded a favorable short-term care score as well. We gave it one of our higher grades in that category with a score of B+. Our short-term care ratings are probably most meaningful for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this facility performed much more favorably. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country in this area with 61.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. In computing a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This particular facility provided 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, we also factored some quality measures into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was long-term care. This facility received a grade of B- in the category. Our long-term care grades are more meaningful for patients in need of more traditional services related to personal care. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 94.5946 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
