Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B for our inspections category. This grade is much better than the place's overall grade. Inspection ratings are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this facility's more respectable category grades was in the area of long-term care. This turned out to be its second best category. In that category, we gave this facility a B-. Our long-term care grades are based on the nursing home's amount of nursing care. This includes a vast range of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 95.98394 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we awarded this facility in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a C. In our short-term care grade, we try to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we assessed is nursing, in which this facility was given a rock bottom score here also. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. There are several data points included in this area. Many of the subcategories relate to staffing levels. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
