Nurse Quality
On top of performing well in its overall score, this facility earned even higher marks in nursing. In fact, it received one of our best scores in that category with an A. In determining our nursing grades, we analyze both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is among the more impressive totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these figures. In addition to offering high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility in the country in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these datapoints as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Facility Inspections
This facility also excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Short-term care grades are generally used to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To have highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This place is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents. In fact, it offered approximately one and a half times as much care per patient from both of these care providers than a typical nursing home provided. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 41.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home rather than remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next area, this nursing home was awarded a decent long-term care rating. Even though this is not as impressive as several of its other scores, this is still nothing to be ashamed of. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. This facility's vaccination data weren't as favorable as its number of nursing hours per resident. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 73.07693 percent of its patients. We would love to see some improvement in this area in the future. Unfortunately, this place's hospitalization rate was worse than we hoped. We found that this place had 2.67 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number can be skewed for some facilities due to the medical complexity of patients
