Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its impressive overall score, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing rating. Our nursing score focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving residents at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive profile, this facility also performed at a high level in the category of inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that area with an B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our higher grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. It performed better than most facilities in the nation in this area with 50.6 percent of its patients returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home was awarded an acceptable long-term care score of C. For residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable figure. This facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
