Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category scores came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B+. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 95.33469 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facilities third best category is short-term care. We gave it a C in this category. This is basically a slightly below average score in this category. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the last area, this facility was given a decent nursing score of C. We assessed the levels of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this category. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we like to look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of residents who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these data points are measures of the quality of nursing care.
