Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This exemplary nursing home also performed remarkably in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we looked at. This is an encouraging sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the country with 57.4 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. We assessed the qualifications of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the better totals we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the number of its patients suffering falls resulting in serious injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home the country.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded is long-term care, in which this nursing home received a B. This actually proved to be this nursing home's worst category. A nursing home could be doing a lot worse when their weakest grade still rates higher than most other nursing homes. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. This nursing home's vaccination records were not as strong as its nursing hours. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 82.45033 percent of its patients. We would like to see some improvement herein this statistic in the future. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.62 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
