Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

While this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it performed well in the area of long-term care. We awarded it a grade of B for that area, which is one of our better scores. This is one of the only good things we can say about this nursing home. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 88.161995 percent of its residents. This is a few points lower than we were hoping for but still a respectable figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Nursing grades are primarily tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared with most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

This place received an F for its inspection grade. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection grade. We recommend you pay close attention to the level of severity of the deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 2 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we analyzed was short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a poor grade. Short-term care grades are commonly used to score a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this place provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average nursing home. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.2 percent of its residents returning home.
