Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

On top of receiving a great overall score, this facility also received first-rate government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our best scores in this area, with a grade of A-. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among this facility's other strengths is its elite nursing grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A-. Nursing grades are largely associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also above average in the area of short-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B. It performed more favorably than most facilities in this area. In computing these short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we looked at proved to be this facility's poorest category. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still awarded it a decent grade of B- in long-term care. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 92.2619 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
