Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this turned out to be a strong nursing home is that it received a very impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In this area, we gave it an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

An additional strong feature for this facility is that it was given a very positive short-term care grade. In fact, this wound up being its second best category score. In that category, we gave this facility a B. Our short-term care ratings are probably more critical for those needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. It does not look like this nursing home submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next best category is long-term care. We gave it a B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 93.01075 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we looked at is nursing. This nursing home received a grade of B- in this area. Our nursing grade is largely based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides 0 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. While this place got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this area. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving patients more frequently.
