Long-term Care Quality
We want to point out that this nursing home earned a much better grade for long-term care than it did overall. In fact, we gave it one of our best grades in that category with an A. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.765434 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. The last datapoint we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 1.97 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the pack in this area.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another area where this facility excelled. In fact, we awarded this nursing home an A- for our inspections rating. This is far more impressive than its overall score. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. We gave this nursing home an D. Our nursing rating weighs several datapoints, however, the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home offered just 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is well below the national average. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place was above average in two of the major statistics we considered, with good scores for avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is certainly a major disappointment. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is typically a meaningful assessment of the facility's rehabilitation services. We found that this facility was below average in several staffing areas we looked at. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 46.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
