Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this nursing home's stronger areas was in the category of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. Our nursing rating is mostly associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home received a B- in this area. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 31.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this facility is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was long-term care, which was this facility's weakest category. We gave this facility a grade of D in that category. Of course, this grade hurt the facility's overall profile a bit. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 96.815285 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.46 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
